Body of Hiker Missing Since New Year's Day Recovered

The body of a British hiker who went missing in the Dolomites has been recovered, according to an Italian search team.

Aziz Ziriat, 36, was found on Saturday in a rocky crevice about 400 meters below where his friend Sam Harris, 35, had been discovered earlier.

Both men, who were from London, disappeared while hiking in January.

Specialist search teams, including a canine unit and the Trentino Alpine and Speleological Rescue, located Mr. Ziriat’s body in the Passo di Conca area. A spokesperson explained that rescuers carefully descended a cliff below the slope, where a search dog detected the missing man’s body partially covered by snow in a rocky crevice.

Authorities promptly notified Mr. Ziriat’s family of the discovery.

Mr. Harris’s body was found on January 8. The two friends had last been seen or heard from on January 1 and missed their scheduled flight home on January 6.

Their final known location was near a mountain shelter called Casina Dosson, close to Tione Di Trento, near Riva Del Garda by Lake Garda.

Palace for Life, the official charity of Crystal Palace FC where Mr. Ziriat served as head of community engagement, expressed deep sorrow over his disappearance.

The charity praised his dedication to making a difference, highlighting his kindness, compassion, and positive impact on colleagues.

Joe Stone, a university friend, noted that both men were experienced hikers who preferred to stay off the grid, but concern grew when they failed to board their return flight.
