August 16 bye-election ‘ll determine who’s in charge of Anambra – APC’s Ukachukwu

APC Governorship Candidate Ukachukwu Vows to Dominate Anambra Politics Ahead of 2025 Elections

Awka — Prince Nicholas Ukachukwu, the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate for the November 8, 2025, Anambra State election, confidently asserted on Saturday that his party will outperform rivals in the upcoming August 16, 2025 bye-election. Speaking in Awka, Ukachukwu emphasized that the bye-election will be a key indicator of which party controls the political landscape of the state.

The bye-election is set to hold in the Anambra South senatorial zone to fill the vacancy left by the late Senator Ifeanyi Ubah, who passed away last year in London. Additionally, a bye-election will take place in Onitsha North 1 state constituency to replace the late Honorable Justice Azuka, who was abducted, murdered, and whose body was found at the Second Niger Bridge last year.

Addressing market leaders from across Anambra, Ukachukwu stated, “We will govern Anambra State and nothing will stop us. We will start with the Anambra South Senate election on Saturday, and after that, we will know who is truly in charge of Anambra. This senatorial election will test our popularity.”

Describing himself as a “child of destiny,” Ukachukwu condemned what he called “over taxation” and harassment of traders by government revenue agents. “If we want to increase tax, we will discuss with the taxpayers first. If I become governor, I will deal decisively with the ‘Akodo’ people who are harassing and maiming traders,” he pledged.

Ukachukwu stressed the importance of market development for the state’s progress, noting that most residents are involved in trade. He criticized the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) for shutting down the Head Bridge drug market, saying such actions would not be tolerated under his administration.

Expressing gratitude to the traders for their support, he said, “I am happy that all the traders in Anambra are united and working together to ensure an APC government is elected in the state.”

He further promised that, if elected, his administration would introduce single-digit interest loans to boost traders’ businesses. “I will govern with dignity. Providing for the people is not a favour. One of you will become Commissioner for Trade and Industry, regardless of whether they speak English or not,” Ukachukwu assured. “Within my first three months, there will be elections in all markets to choose your leaders, and I will support the outcome, no matter where the leaders come from.”

Ukachukwu also highlighted the benefits of Anambra aligning with APC-controlled states such as Imo and Ebonyi. “There is an ongoing power project in Imo. Once I become governor, we will extend power to Anambra using the same company, because both states will belong to APC,” he said.

Supporting Ukachukwu’s message, his Chief of Staff, Dr. Kingsley Ezekwelu, emphasized the importance of connecting Anambra to the federal government for development projects. “The over N200 billion Second Niger Bridge project and the $10 billion railway system won’t progress unless we are connected to the center. If APC doesn’t win Anambra, many federal appointments will be lost to us, and civil service recruitment is already unfavourable,” Ezekwelu warned.

He also linked unemployment to rising youth criminality in the state and praised Ukachukwu’s potential to revitalize Onitsha’s business environment. “If Ukachukwu wins, Anambra will become the business hub of Nigeria, reviving Onitsha’s once-thriving trade that attracted traders from across Africa,” Ezekwelu stated.

Ezekwelu further described Ukachukwu as a proactive leader, recalling his early political success as the first House of Representatives member for Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC) at age 31, and contrasted him favourably with detained activist Mazi Nnamdi Kanu.
