The Osun State Police Command has opened an investigation into the death of a woman, identified as Bidemi Omole, who died at the residence of her boyfriend, Yinka, in Esa-Oke town, Osun State.
Information obtained by PUNCH Online from community sources revealed that Bidemi had gone to her boyfriend’s house on Friday evening but suddenly fell ill shortly after her arrival and died not long after.
The incident, which reportedly occurred around 9:30 p.m., threw the community into confusion and fear, as residents trooped to Yinka’s house in the Oke Esa area when news of her death spread across the town.
A neighbor, who gave her name as Taye, said Bidemi’s sudden death happened not long after she got to Yinka’s house. She explained, “We heard a cry for help and rushed to Yinka’s place. By the time I arrived, a large crowd had already gathered there. I noticed the presence of security officers, but because it was late and the crowd was huge, it was difficult to get close. From what we gathered, the deceased was supposed to be on her way to a Friday vigil before the unfortunate incident. She usually attends such vigils. The police have since arrested her boyfriend, and he is currently in their custody.”
When contacted on Sunday, the spokesperson of the Osun Police Command, Abiodun Ojelabi, confirmed the development, adding that the case was officially reported to the police on Saturday. He explained that according to the account given by the deceased’s boyfriend, Bidemi suddenly took ill after arriving at his house and began vomiting.
“She was being rushed to the hospital when she passed away,” Ojelabi stated.
The police spokesman confirmed that the suspect, Yinka, had been arrested and was already in police custody. He assured that the police would conduct a thorough investigation, including an autopsy, to determine the actual cause of death.
