Speaking during the fourth day of RCCG’s ongoing International Convention themed “The Overcomers,” Adeboye emphasized that death doesn’t always result from a lengthy illness, expressing confidence that his own passing will be sudden and without pain.
“I will die on a Sunday after service, eat my beloved pounded yam, and pass on without sickness,” he said.
He noted that he originally shared this vision two years ago and repeated it to remind believers that death can be peaceful for those who belong to Christ. In a sermon titled “Possess Your Possessions,” Adeboye urged Christians to actively lay hold of the blessings God has promised them, warning that spiritual inheritance often requires persistence and spiritual warfare.
Referring to the biblical account of the Israelites claiming the Promised Land, he said:
“Sometimes, you have to fight for what already belongs to you.”
He identified healing, prosperity, fruitfulness, and longevity as areas where believers must confront spiritual resistance. Citing John 10:10, he reminded the congregation that Jesus paid a heavy price for their healing, but the enemy still seeks to steal, kill, and destroy.
“Long life is your right, but the enemy will try everything to cut it short. You must fight to stay alive,” he said.
On the topic of prosperity, Adeboye stated:
“The God who owns the earth, silver, and gold paid dearly so you wouldn’t live in poverty. If you choose to remain poor, you will be.”
He also criticized the double standards society imposes on successful Christians:
“If a Christian prospers, people criticize them. But if they die poor, they ask, ‘Where is your God?’”
Drawing on the examples of Rachel and Hannah, who overcame barrenness through persistent prayer, he urged believers to stand against spiritual bondage. Concluding with the story of Jacob wrestling with the angel, he encouraged unwavering determination in faith:
“Whatever you tolerate will continue to oppress you. Stop accepting sickness, poverty, barrenness, or untimely death. Fight for your blessings—Christ has made it possible.”
