Santos FC forward Neymar has issued an apology after admitting he overstepped his bounds by slapping teenage teammate Robinho Jr during a training session.
The incident is said to have occurred on Sunday at the club’s training ground, when the 18-year-old dribbled past Neymar, triggering a frustrated reaction from the 34-year-old striker.
According to reports by BBC Sport, Robinho Jr described the act as a “forceful slap to the face,” prompting the club to launch an internal review.
By Tuesday, Santos announced that the issue had been resolved after both players held discussions, stating that the matter had been settled amicably.
Neymar, Brazil’s all-time top scorer, openly acknowledged his actions and accepted full responsibility. He admitted that he reacted poorly, saying he lost control in the moment and recognised that, while both players made mistakes, his reaction was the more serious one.
Despite the clash, Neymar spoke positively about his younger teammate, noting he holds a strong fondness for him and likening the disagreement to typical disputes between friends or teammates.
Robinho Jr, son of former Brazil international Robinho, revealed that Neymar apologised immediately after the incident and repeated it several times. Although he was initially upset—especially given that Neymar had long been his idol—he said the issue was quickly resolved and that their relationship remains good.
The two appeared to have moved past the altercation during Tuesday’s match, where Neymar celebrated his goal in a 1–1 draw by embracing Robinho Jr on the sidelines.
Santos are now expected to put the episode behind them, with both players remaining part of the squad and no further disciplinary measures anticipated.
