Makinde Eases Sallah Celebration with Discounted Rams, Rice for Workers

Ileya 2025: Makinde Supports 2,500 Oyo Workers with Subsidised Rams, Rice, and Food Items

The Oyo State Government has distributed subsidised festive commodities to 2,500 civil and public servants ahead of the 2025 Ileya (Eid-el-Kabir) celebration.

The initiative, led by the Chairman of the Oyo State Agricultural Credit Corporation, Taofeek Akeugbagold, took place on Saturday at the corporation’s premises in Total Garden, Ibadan.

According to Akeugbagold, beneficiaries received rams, bags of rice, vegetable oil, and other essential food items at prices significantly below market value. He explained that the intervention is part of Governor Seyi Makinde’s broader effort to support workers’ welfare, especially during festive periods.

“This initiative is in response to the rising cost of living, particularly during celebrations like Ileya,” Akeugbagold said. “The governor directed us to provide this relief so workers can enjoy the season despite economic pressures.”

He added that over 5,000 workers have benefited from the scheme since its inception. The commodities are offered under a structured repayment plan, with deductions spread over three months from recipients’ salaries.

Akeugbagold noted that the government plans to expand the programme in the future to reach even more workers as part of its drive to promote economic inclusion and social stability.

One of the beneficiaries, Kunle Adeyemo, expressed gratitude for the gesture, saying, “This initiative will enable my family to partake in the Ileya celebration in a happy and dignified manner.”
