No Support for Mbah, Enugu APC Says, Contradicting Eze

Enugu APC Disputes Arthur Eze’s Claim of Tinubu’s Endorsement for Governor Mbah

The Enugu State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has dismissed billionaire businessman Arthur Eze’s claim that President Bola Tinubu has endorsed Governor Peter Mbah for a second term.

Eze allegedly made the remark during a ceremony marking Mbah’s second year in office, asserting that Tinubu had backed the governor due to his “character and honesty.” “Tinubu has already endorsed him for second term because he has character. He is very honest. Nobody will stop him,” Eze said.

Responding on Saturday, the APC in Enugu labeled the statement “misleading and self-serving,” urging the public to disregard it. In a statement signed by its Publicity Secretary, Titus Ezeagu, the party emphasized that Eze lacks the authority to speak for the President, noting he is not a member of the APC and did not support Tinubu in the 2023 election.

“Arthur Eze openly opposed President Tinubu during the 2023 elections and supported another candidate. He cannot speak on the President’s behalf,” the statement read.

The party clarified that Tinubu has not endorsed any governor for re-election across the country, including Governor Mbah. It accused Eze of name-dropping the President for political advantage and claimed he had made similar remarks in other states, such as Anambra, where Tinubu later reaffirmed support for the APC candidate, Nicholas Ukachukwu.

Describing Eze’s comments as “propaganda,” the Enugu APC said they were aimed at propping up a governor it considers to be running an “anti-people” administration. The party also criticized Mbah and the PDP, accusing them of using false claims of presidential endorsement to divert attention from internal party crises, including a lingering dispute over the PDP’s national secretary position.
