The Students’ Representative Council (SRC) of the Nigerian Law School, Dr. Nabo Graham Douglas Campus in Port Harcourt, has expressed profound sadness over the recent suicide of one of its students.
In an official statement signed by AIKOYE Praise Ofili, Public Relations Officer (PRO) Elect, on behalf of Chairman Mark Amararu Thankgod and the SRC Executive Committee, the council extended sincere condolences to the deceased student’s family, friends, fellow students, and the entire Nigerian Law School community.
“This loss is deeply felt, leaving a significant void in our close campus community and beyond. We share in your sorrow and stand with you through this difficult time,” the statement said.
The SRC acknowledged the emotional strain and intense pressures that often accompany the study of law and urged students to prioritize their mental health and seek support whenever needed.
“We strongly encourage all students to care for their well-being. Remember, you are never alone. If you feel overwhelmed, please reach out to friends, family, lecturers, or mentors. Asking for help shows strength,” the statement emphasized.
The council assured students of its dedication to their mental health and welfare, highlighting ongoing efforts with the Law School Management to improve support services and build resilience throughout the campus. Students were reminded they can contact the SRC Welfare Committee or use available counseling resources.
“This tragic incident is a painful reminder of the pressures we face and the importance of fostering a compassionate and supportive community,” the SRC added.
In closing, the council urged students to “honor the memory of our lost colleague by caring for one another with kindness and attentiveness.”
“May his soul rest in peace, and may God grant us all strength and comfort in this time of mourning,” the statement concluded.
