‘This is not me’ – 2Baba apologises to wife Natasha, children over controversial comments

Renowned Nigerian singer Innocent Idibia, popularly known as 2Baba, has publicly apologized to his wife, Natasha, and their children following widespread backlash over a controversial comment he made regarding male sexuality and monogamy.

In a recent appearance on the 234 Mzansi podcast, hosted by media personality Nedu, 2Baba suggested that it is “almost impossible” for a man to stay sexually committed to just one woman, even when in love. The statement ignited intense criticism and sparked heated discussions online.

In response to the fallout, the award-winning artist took to his Instagram page on Wednesday to issue a sincere apology, admitting the impact of his words and the pain they caused.

“I know I messed up with what I said,” 2Baba began. “I know there’s a price to pay, and I will pay it. I didn’t express myself properly. I take full responsibility. I’ve hurt a lot of people—fans, supporters, and those who look up to me. This isn’t who I am.”

He directed a special apology to his wife, calling her “amazing, brilliant, and the love of my life,” while also expressing regret for the effect his actions may have had on his children. “You don’t deserve the embarrassment I’ve caused,” he said.

Reflecting on the incident, 2Baba acknowledged the disappointment his words had brought to those who view him as a role model. “People call me a legend, but what I said was far from legendary. I feel deeply ashamed and accept my mistake.”

He added that while he had casually made the comment during a light-hearted conversation, the overwhelming reaction helped him realize the depth of respect and admiration people have for him—and how his words undermined that.

“I understand why people are angry,” he concluded. “That’s not the real me. I sometimes say reckless things, but my music speaks for who I truly am.”
