Police in Rivers State have arrested a man, identified only as “Doctor,” for allegedly stabbing his partner, known as Ima, to death on Okereke Street, Mile 1, Diobu, Port Harcourt, on Sunday night. The attack was reportedly fueled by suspicions of infidelity.
According to accounts, the suspect accused Ima of being unfaithful, sparking a heated quarrel. A witness, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said the argument escalated until the man grabbed a knife and stabbed the woman, who died from her injuries.
The witness added that the caretaker of the compound quickly reported the matter to the Azikiwe Police Division in Mile 2, Diobu, leading to the suspect’s arrest.
On Monday morning, crowds of sympathisers and onlookers gathered outside the police station as officers brought the woman’s body in. Shortly after, the remains were transferred to a mortuary at an undisclosed location.
Confirming the incident, Rivers State Police Command spokesperson, Grace Iringe-Koko, said the suspect had been taken into custody. She further disclosed that Commissioner of Police, Olugbenga Adepoju, had directed the case be handed over to the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department in Port Harcourt for thorough investigation.
