Nigerians Seeking US Visas Now Required to Share Five Years of Social Media Activity

The United States Mission in Nigeria has directed visa applicants to disclose all social media usernames and handles they have used in the last five years as part of the application process.

The announcement, made on the Mission’s official X page on Monday, follows the U.S. State Department’s renewed efforts to strengthen national security through stricter vetting procedures.

According to the Mission, applicants must provide a full record of their social media accounts on the DS-160 visa application form. It cautioned that failure to include this information could result in visa refusal and possible disqualification from obtaining future U.S. visas.

The statement read in part: “Applicants are required to list all social media usernames or handles from every platform they have used in the past five years on the DS-160 visa form. By signing and submitting, they affirm that the information provided is accurate. Any omission could lead to visa denial and ineligibility for future applications.”
