The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has arrested a 50-year-old widow and fashion designer, Mrs. Ifeoma Henrietta Ezewuike, for allegedly attempting to smuggle 1.3 kilograms of cocaine disguised as a fake pregnancy.
Ezewuike, who owns Golden Star Creation, a fashion business in the Okota area of Lagos, was apprehended by NDLEA operatives at a bus terminal in Jibowu, Yaba, on Friday, August 22, 2025, while she was on her way to deliver the drug consignment to buyers in Abuja.
According to a statement issued by NDLEA spokesperson, Femi Babafemi, a subsequent raid on Ezewuike’s residence in Ago Palace Way, Okota, uncovered 200 grams of a cutting agent commonly used in processing cocaine.
During interrogation, Ezewuike, a mother of one, admitted that she had been in the fashion trade for over 20 years but claimed she inherited the drug trafficking business from her late husband, who died two years ago.
The agency also reported several related drug busts across the country. In Lagos, NDLEA officers intercepted 90 parcels of Loud (a potent strain of cannabis) weighing 48.6 kilograms. The drugs, smuggled from the United States, were hidden inside three cartons of imported kitchen sinks and seized at a courier company on Tuesday, August 19.
In Adamawa State, a raid on the home of a known drug baron, Idris Garba, in Rumde Baru, Yola South, led to the arrest of his 55-year-old associate, Boniface Nnaji, who attempted to escape by scaling a fence. Items recovered included a black Toyota Tundra jeep, which Nnaji had driven to Yola to supply Garba with 354,480 pills of tramadol and other opioids, as well as a Toyota Yaris vehicle.
In Kano State, operatives arrested two suspects, Buhari Ibrahim (25) and Mansur Musa (24), with 5,850 capsules of pregabalin at Zangon Ungogo on August 19. That same day, 452,070 opioid pills were recovered from the residence of a fleeing suspect, Rabilu Mukhtar, in Rangaza, Ungogo LGA. Another man, Buhari Idris (35), was caught in Tashan Rami with 140 litres of codeine syrup. On Saturday, August 23, NDLEA also intercepted nearly 7,000 tramadol capsules from 29-year-old Adamu Yusuf along the Zaria–Kano highway.
In Abuja, two motorcycle dispatch riders were arrested for distributing narcotics.
Babafemi further disclosed that similar operations were carried out in Taraba, Edo, Delta, Ondo, and Ekiti States, where large cannabis farms and warehouses were discovered and destroyed.
