Billionaire businessman Oskar Ibru dies at 67

Olorogun Oskar Ibru, prominent businessman and chairman of the Ibru Organisation, has passed away at 67.

His family confirmed the news in a statement reported by Arise News on Wednesday, noting that he died following a short illness. However, no additional information regarding the circumstances was made public.

A significant figure in Nigeria’s corporate landscape, Oskar Ibru was among the leading heirs of the Ibru dynasty. He played a vital role in preserving and expanding the conglomerate founded by his late father, Olorogun Michael Ibru, whose vast business empire spanned shipping, oil and gas, real estate, and trade. His death comes less than ten years after Michael Ibru’s passing in 2016.

Funeral details are expected to be announced soon. In a tribute on Wednesday, media entrepreneur and Ovation International publisher Dele Momodu described Ibru as “a remarkably warm gentleman and consummate socialite.”

Posting on Instagram, Momodu wrote: “I’ve just received news, while in the skies, that one of Nigeria’s most iconic businessmen, OLOROGUN OSKAR IBRU, has passed away… He was a warm, sociable man deeply loved by family and friends… the son of business legend, OLOROGUN MICHAEL IBRU… Rest in peace, dear Brother.”
