More than 20,000 people are expected to attend as celebrity chef and Guinness World Record holder Hilda Baci prepares to cook what she calls the world’s largest pot of Nigerian jollof rice at Eko Hotel and Suites this Friday.
On Thursday, Baci shared a video on Instagram showing the arrival of the enormous pot at the Lagos venue. A separate Snapchat clip captured her and her mother in prayer ahead of the highly anticipated event.
The chef announced on Wednesday that over 20,000 participants had registered for the festival, officially named the “Gino World Jollof Festival with Hilda Baci.” She emphasized that the program, beginning at 9 a.m. on Friday, September 12, is free for all attendees, promising that no guest will have to pay for the meal she prepares.
According to Baci, the attempt involves a colossal pot measuring six metres in height and width, created in partnership with culinary brand Gino. The dish will require 250 bags of rice, making it a strong contender for the title of the world’s largest jollof rice. The spectacle is expected to draw thousands of food lovers and fans eager to witness another landmark achievement from the star chef.
Baci previously made international headlines in May 2023, when she completed a 100-hour cooking marathon in Lagos, a feat that earned her worldwide acclaim and a Guinness World Record.
