17 House of Representatives Members Leave ADC for NDC

At least 17 members of the House of Representatives have left the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and joined the Nigerian Democratic Congress (NDC).

The defections were officially announced during Tuesday’s plenary session in the Green Chamber by the Deputy Speaker of the House, Benjamin Kalu.

According to the lawmakers, they decided to leave the ADC because of ongoing internal problems and unresolved disputes within the party.

Some of the lawmakers who moved to the NDC include Yusuf Datti, Uchenna Okonkwo, Adamu Wakili, Thaddeus Attah, George Ozodinobi, Lilian Orogbu, Oluwaseyi Sowunmi, Peter Aniekwe, Mukhtar Zakari, George Oluwande, and Munachim Umezuruike. Others are Emeka Idu, Jesse Onuakalusi, Ifeanyi Uzokwe, Afam Ogene, Murphy Omroruyi, and Abdulhakeem Ado.

The move is part of a larger political shift linked to tensions and disagreements within the ADC, which many party members believe have weakened unity within the party.

Former presidential candidate Peter Obi and former Kano State governor Rabiu Kwankwaso also recently joined the NDC. Reports suggest they made the move to avoid ongoing internal conflicts and to build a stronger and more stable political platform ahead of the 2027 elections.

Obi explained that his decision came after careful thought about the condition of the country and his desire to contribute more effectively to national development. He stressed that his exit was not based on personal ambition or frustration.

Both Obi and Kwankwaso also encouraged their supporters to focus on national progress instead of political disputes and court cases, while calling for unity within the new political platform.
