A kidnapped teacher from Community High School, Ahoro-Esinele in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State, identified as Michael Oyedokun, has been killed.
Reports indicate that Oyedokun was beheaded in a disturbing video allegedly shared by the abductors on Sunday. The footage, which surfaced on Telegram and was seen on Monday, reportedly showed him tied up and forced to speak before being killed, sparking widespread outrage and renewed concern over the safety of other abductees.
The incident has plunged the community into mourning, with residents and families of the victims urging security agencies and the Oyo State government to intensify efforts to rescue those still held captive.
Confirming the development, the Special Adviser on Media to Governor Seyi Makinde, Dr Suleimon Olanrewaju, said the governor expressed condolences to the bereaved family and assured that both military and non-military strategies would be used to secure the release of remaining victims.
He also disclosed that around six suspects connected to the kidnapping had been arrested, describing them as possible informants or logistics supporters for the attackers. In addition, three more persons of interest were reportedly detained by another security agency in the state.
Olanrewaju further expressed sympathy for members of the joint rescue team—including soldiers, the Amotekun Corps, and local vigilantes—who lost their lives after encountering improvised explosive devices planted by the kidnappers. Injured personnel, he added, are receiving treatment and responding positively.
He appealed for patience from families and stakeholders, stressing that while progress may not be immediate, efforts to secure the release and safe return of the remaining hostages would continue.
According to him, seven teachers were originally abducted, including the school principal, during the attack on Friday, May 15. The kidnapping has heightened insecurity concerns in Oyo State and across surrounding regions.
The attack followed other recent violent incidents in the area, further intensifying public fear about rising insecurity in parts of Nigeria.
