Activist Aisha Yesufu quits ADC, joins NDC and declares interest in FCT Senate race.

Prominent activist Aisha Yesufu has left the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and joined the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC).

She also announced her intention to run for the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) senatorial seat in the 2027 general elections.

Yesufu made this known in a statement shared on her X account on Wednesday, explaining that her decision was driven by what she described as a deeper understanding of the nation’s future and her continued alignment with the political vision of former presidential candidate Peter Obi.

She stated that the coming days would be crucial in shaping Nigeria’s future, noting that her move to the NDC reflects her commitment to following Obi’s leadership, which she believes represents hope for a functional nation.

According to her, her initial support for Obi led her to join the ADC, and her switch to the NDC is a continuation of that commitment. She emphasized that she intends not only to be a member of the NDC but also to contest for the FCT senatorial seat under its platform.

Yesufu added that she had formally concluded her responsibilities within the ADC, ensuring a smooth and respectful transition. She expressed gratitude for the opportunity to serve in various leadership roles within the party and described the experience as valuable.

Her defection comes amid ongoing shifts within Nigeria’s opposition politics, following recent moves by key figures including Peter Obi and former Kano State Governor Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso to the NDC, which has prompted a wave of departures from the ADC.
