The United States has deported a Nigerian citizen, Ayodeji Ajayi, after he was convicted of several crimes, including domestic violence, as part of ongoing immigration enforcement measures.
In a statement shared on its official X account on Tuesday, the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) said Ajayi had remained in the country unlawfully after entering on a student visa in 2007.
According to ICE, Ajayi initially arrived in the United States to study but later left school and failed to leave the country as required by his visa conditions.
Rather than departing, he allegedly built up an extensive criminal record. ICE reported that his convictions included domestic violence, trespassing, intimidation, and obstruction. The agency also noted that his criminal history involved charges related to kidnapping, rape, and family neglect.
ICE linked the deportation to President Donald Trump's immigration policies, stating that efforts to remove undocumented immigrants with criminal records remain a key priority of the administration.
While the agency confirmed that Ajayi had been deported, it did not specify the exact date of his removal or provide additional details regarding the offences, such as where the convictions occurred or the outcome of the other charges.
The deportation is part of a broader crackdown by the Trump administration on undocumented immigrants with criminal backgrounds, with federal authorities increasing enforcement actions and removals across the country.
