Ibrahim Olawale, elder brother of missing woman Noimot, tells GRACE EDEMA how the family traced her location and uncovered the phone number of a suspected ritual killer from the hotel manager’s call logs, where she was last seen.
Relationship to the missing person:
I am her brother. Noimot is my parents’ third child, 30 years old. I work as a technician at Ikeja Electricity Distribution Company.
Marital status:
She is a single mother with one child.
What happened the day she went missing:
On Saturday, July 19, around 2 pm, I received a call from a neighbour. They had tried calling her, but someone else answered, claiming she had an accident and was taken to LASUTH in Ikeja. The neighbour went to the hospital, repeatedly called her number, which rang until they reached the gate, then went off. They checked the emergency centre, wards, and mortuary, but she wasn’t there.
Next steps:
We were advised to return to the hospital, but instead, my sister and I visited some neighbours and friends in Maya, Ikorodu, where she had been staying. They told us that on Friday, July 18, she left home with a friend for work. Around 8:30 am, she said she was stepping out briefly to go to Ejigbo and would return.
Did she come back?
No. Her friend later called, but she didn’t return. The friend ended up spending the night at the hotel where they worked.
The following morning:
Her friend left around 7:30 am. Around noon or 1 pm, a neighbour came by and found Noimot’s nine-year-old son alone. The neighbour called my sister’s number, and someone answered, claiming she had an accident and was at the hospital.
Details from her friend at work:
Her friend confirmed that Noimot had stepped out briefly after arriving at work. She worked in the bar section of a hotel. I got the manager’s number, Mr. Wale Onibudo, and learned the hotel had no official name, located at Ladega.
At the hotel:
We visited the hotel together. Her friend hinted at a “hookup” situation. I met the manager, Mr. Rafiu, and the owner, Mr. Wale Onibudo. Both said Noimot and her friend left Friday night and didn’t return. This contradicted her friend’s earlier claim that she slept at the hotel.
Next actions:
We went to Noimot’s residence, collected her house key from a neighbour, and went inside with her son. On Sunday, July 20, we filed a complaint at Sagamu Police Division.
Tracking efforts:
We traced the suspect’s number, which fluctuated on MTN and was off on Airtel. Someone helped track it, giving the last known location just before the line went off.
Proximity of the location:
The traced location was near where she lived, close to the hotel.
